Distinguished Speaker Friday March 27th

Dr. Mark Ashcraft will be giving a talk at Carleton University entitled: Numerical Estimation, Complex Math Expressions, and Math Anxiety: What’s New in Ashcraft’s Lab. The talk will take place at 2:30 pm on Friday March 27th in VSIM 5220. Dr. Ashcraft is from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and his research is focused on answering questions such as “What do people know about numbers, arithmetic and math?” and “How do we learn math?”. His research examines the mental processes that people use to solve math problems from anwering basic facts to more complex problems that include procedures. His research has included both children and adults. He is also interested in how personal factors such as motivation, experience and anxiety impact math performance.
